AEN Skills Academy

Through the AEN Skills Academy, we offer a number of accredited qualifications through a number of learning programmes. We offer programmes designed to provide learners with the tools and skills they need to provide excellent services and become valuable members of the organisations they serve.

Blended Education

AEN utilises a blended teaching approach, which allows limited face to face contact sessions (if preferred by employed learners); rich academic support model allows learners to maximise their learning opportunities, whilst in full time employment.

Learning does not need to be synchronous and learners may access AEN learning management system online.

These Learning management platforms called AEN Assess  and aesi’ are user friendly, e-learning, mobile supported platforms that provide the learner with the necessary information and tools required to complete a learning programme.

Recognition of Prior Learning

RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) is the identification, assessment and acknowledgement of an individual’s skills and knowledge within the context of a specific qualification, irrespective of how and where they have been acquired.

Skills and knowledge can be acquired by means of various informal learning opportunities, for example: Informal training, On the job experience, Life experience and short courses.

The process of RPL applied at AEN

  • Identifying what a person knows and can do (using HR assessment tools).
  • Matching the person’s knowledge, skills and experience to specific standards and the associated assessment criteria of a qualification.
  • Assessing the learning against those standards; and Crediting the person for skills, knowledge and experience built up through formal, informal and non-formal learning that occurred in the past.

Pre Training Assessment (PTA) | Pre course entry assessment

The PTA is a pre-requisite to any learning Programme.

It should recognise prior learning and assess current competency so that learners are placed on the applicable NQF levels. It is critical to determine the correct starting point for each adult learmer/employee and pinpoint the areas that need to be developed.

The learners /employees will be assessed in communication in English and Numeracy. This assessment session will take place at your office /site, and any time. It is a 3-hour assessment.

Credit Accumulation Transfer (CAT)

CAT is the acronym for “Credit Accumulation Transfer”, and is based on a model developed by SAQA that is used to determine how CAT (Credit Award Transfer) can be implemented to recognized school / FET qualifications and sector qualifications.

This ensures that learners don’t repeat the exercise of learning something they already know. The positive knock-on effect is that:

  • The cost of learning can be reduced as a learner only has to pay for components they require.
  • Training time is reduced.
  • The programme can focus on core and specialisation outcomes .

It should be noted that, given an under-resourced school system in our country and bell curve challenges, many learners could benefit from doing the Maths and Language components of a qualification even though they could be credited for it.

Foundational Learning Competence (FLC)

FLC is a part qualification that consists of two learning areas: Communication and Mathematical Literacy.

It outlines the minimum level of competence required for optimal functioning in the world of work and for occupational learning at NQF Levels 2-4.

Each learning area carries 20 credits. The FLC is directed at learners in legacy and occupational qualifications registered on the NQF at Level 2, 3 and 4.

Adult Matric

Adult Matric is a way for people with a Grade 9 certificate and older than 21 years of age to get a Matric Certificate. It is also called the Amended National Senior Certificate (ANSC).

An adult employed or unemployed learner — no matter your age, canachieve Matric. Because the learner is no longer at school, a “school” mark, is not necessary for a final mark.
